First of all a big THANK YOU to all those who have programmed phantastic Pingus-games with so much diligence, creativity and love for detail - especially to Ingo-"Grumbel" Ruhnke.

The Levelsets:

Why a new structure? When I started playing Pingus I was torn inbetween "this is simply impossible" and "this simple?". So I started structuring the levels I had already mastered into catagories: "Fun" - "Tricky" - "Taxing". There is also a category for the levels I was unable to master: "Impossible". I would be grateful for any help on those. Just send me a mail. So all the mastered levels are being stored and I can chose my personal levelset according to how I feel.

So this is the list where I am going to add levelsets and levels (being programmed by dedicated Pingus players around the world). Whenever I've played (and hopefully mastered) a few more I will update the list.

Installation 0.7.3.5 (Ubuntu):

Meanwhile I have changed from version 0.7.2.0 to version 0.7.3.5. What comes especially handy here is the possibility to have as many levelsets on display as you like. And within the levelsets you may list as many levels as there are since it is now possible to turn the pages. This version also includes many exciting and new levelsets and levels. Unfortunately, only a few of them are being displayed automatically. How do you get them all? First of all here's a quick guide how to get hold of the version 0.7.3.5:

Simply download 0.7.3.5. Here's the link to the download.
Unpack this file and store it to your home directory. Important note: the subdirectory has to be named "pingus-0.7.3.5".
Under INSTALL.Unix you find a complete guideline for the installation.

What next? How does the dedicated Pingus-player get hold of all the levels available? Follow me:

First of all you have to create a new folder named "levels-Arbeit" in the subdirectory "data" under "pingus-0.7.3.5".
Then you have to download the following scripts, unpack and copy them into the folder "levels-Arbeit".
Important note: For both of the scripts "pingusneu.sh" and "pingusstart.sh" you have to activate "Allow executing file as program" under "properties" / "permissions".
You can now download the levelsets of your choice from the following list.
Unpack and include them into the folder "levels-Arbeit".
Important note: You have to leave the files (levels) in the folders. This is to display the levelsets correctly.
To play Pingus simply click "pingusneu.sh" and then "run program in terminal".
To improve the display and adapt it to your monitor change the respective data in "pingusstart.sh".
Word from the wise: link this script to your desktop and you've got Pingus-to-go ...

Installation 0.7.4 / 0.7.5 / 0.7.6 (Ubuntu and Windows):

On the 10th of October 2011 Grumbel (Ingo Ruhnke) has released a new version: 0.7.4. This version does elminate some bugs, brings about improvements and the design is even more sophisticated than before. There is also some new original levelsets.

And here's the good news for the users of Windows: on the 12th of October 2011 the windows-version did follow. This is a preliminary but I have tested it and it did function smoothly.

Then, on the 23rd of October 2011 the version 0.7.5 did follow - with further improvements. Here you can go into developer-mode and have access to levels that have not been published yet.

On the 24th of December 2011 Grumbel published the version 0.7.6. According to him there's not much changes to the core game, but a brand new levelset.

Shortly afterwards a Mac-version did follow. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the system so all I can do is give you the link to the respective page.

So you can now play PINGUS on both operating systems. Here's a short guide for the installation:

Simply download the version of you choice on the Pingus page of Ingo Ruhnke.
Here's the link 0.7.4 and link 0.7.5 and link 0.7.6 for Ubuntu.
Here's the link 0.7.4 and link 0.7.5 and link 0.7.6 for Windows.
Copy the zip-file to your home directory and unpack it there.
For Unix-systems there is then a guideline for the installation ("INSTALL.Unix").
Under windows there no further action required for 0.7.4 and 0.7.5. For 0.7.6 there's a guided installation that results in an exe- and an uninstall-file.
Under Ubuntu you start the game with "pingus" (link)
Under Windows you start the game with "Pingus.exe".
Link the exe-file to your desktop and you've got Pingus-to-go ...

To get hold of the levelsets in my list - in addition to the original levelsets - this is what needs to be done:

Download the zip-file of your choice from my list "Levelsets" (0.7.4 / 0.7.5 / 0.7.6).
Copy the file into the folder where you have stored pingus.
For Ubuntu: Unpack the zip-file and you've got a new folder "data(2)". Copy the content of this folder ("levels" and "levelsets") and paste into the folder "data". You're then being asked if you want to merge / replace the data. Confirm this. Finally you can delete the folder "data(2)".
For Windows: Double-click the file and you've got the folder "data". Double-click it and you've got the folders "levels" and "levelsets". Copy these two folders and paste into "pingus-0.7.4/data" respectively "pingus-0.7.5/data" or "pingus-0.7.6/data". You're then being asked if you want to replace the folders / files. Confirm this. Finally you can delete the zip-file.
If you restart Pingus now the included levels will be displayed in the game.

Installation of the beta-Version (Ubuntu):

Heureka! Grumbel is back. And he is working on a new version. I have meanwhile installed it and it's fantastic. The version includes improvements, it eliminates bugs, brings new functions and new levels. Grumbel is working on it constantly so I recommend to update the installation in regular intervals in order to profit from all the innovations. Here's a quick guide how to install the beta-version:

Some supporting programs are required for the updating of the installation. Open a terminal and enter the command "sudo apt-get install g++ libsdl1.2-dev libsdl-mixer1.2-dev libsdl-image1.2-dev libboost-dev libboost-signals-dev libpng12-dev scons git". Please note: this action requires your admin-password since new programs are being installed.
Then you have to download the following scripts, unpack and copy them into your home directory.
Important note: For both of the scripts you have to activate "Allow executing file as program" under "properties" / "permissions".
Start the installation with the script "pingus-0.8.0-install.sh". This will take some time. And - as I mentioned before - it's quite worth the while to update the installation every now and then, since Grumbel is working on the new version constantly.
To play Pingus simply click "pingus-0.8.0.sh" and then "run program in terminal".
You can now download the levelsets of your choice from the following list.
Unpack and include them into the folder "levels-Arbeit".
Important note: You have to leave the files (levels) in the folders. This is to display the levelsets correctly.
Word from the wise: link this script to your desktop and you've got Pingus-to-go ...
